INTRAMATRIX is one of the first experimental androids to have organic qualities. Though still largely machine, they posess an artifically grown brain that is enhanced with mechanical implants. The experiment, however, was considered a failure, as INTRAMATRIX's "logic system" worked inconsistently, having irratic shifts in mentality.
Life in the labortory was oppressing, even more so after they had concluded them to be a failure. INTRAMATRIX was originally going to be disposed and then promptly recycled, but they escaped. This proved to be a concern for those scientists, who viewed their existence as a threat to society... and so, INTRAMATRIX lived in hiding for quite some time, attempting to avoid the possibility of being found.
However, "The Great Merge" would soon begin, and suddenly the world was no longer as it was. INTRAMATRIX came out of hiding, being one of the few androids to have not been shut down by the shockwaves-- it must have been due to their organic characteristics. They saw this event as freedom-- finally being unshackled from ORDER.
INTRAMATRIX's concept came around 2022 when I discovered a virus known as solaris.exe. I was enamoured by its chaotic nature, and how it becomes a demo at the very end (called Betelgeuse).
I have been interested in computer viruses for a long time, I used to watch a lot of videos that de-constructed a lot of the better known ones...It is/was an interest mostly fueled by morbid curiosity-- computer viruses terrify me but I also can't help but feel fascinated by them, why people make them, and how they even really work... Solaris was made not out of malice but for art, and it made me wonder...can even computer viruses, something that is made to destroy, be beautiful?
The initial idea was to create a character that was a living computer virus (that had become sentient in some form), using my thoughts behind computer viruses (and solaris.exe) as a guide. I played around with many ideas, but my vision was so specific that it was hard to execute what I had imagined onto paper. I would have periods where I would stop developing them, then pick it back up again months later... this went on for a long time until 2024, where I finally got something down that I liked.
Since then, their concept has changed a little to be an android, not a computer virus, but that chaotic nature is very much still in-tact. I was re-watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2003) and I simply thought that General Grievous was really badass! Some aspects of his design certainly influenced INTRAMATRIX's eventual design direction.
